Uttara is a large planned area in northern Dhaka, close to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Visitors often pass through it on the way to or from the airport, and it is a useful base for shopping, meals and short errands.
Getting your bearings
Uttara is divided into numbered sectors, which makes addresses easier to follow than in older parts of the city. Dakshinkhan and Ashkona, where Hotel D Palace is located, are on its edge.
Getting around
- Ride-share apps and taxis for door-to-door trips
- CNG auto-rickshaws for short hops, with the fare agreed first
- Rickshaws for very short local distances
- Dhaka Metro Rail Line-6, which serves Uttara; check the current timetable and stations before you go
Eating and shopping
Uttara has many restaurants, bakeries, shopping centres and pharmacies. Opening hours change, so check a map listing before a long trip. Read our places to visit in Uttara for ideas.
Staying nearby
If you have an early flight, staying close to the airport reduces the morning rush. See our rooms or the location page.
